Girls' Welwyn and Hatfield Football Tournament

Our first football event of the year was exciting and challenging!  The girls attended the Welwyn and Hatfield tournament at Monk’s Walk and were drawn against some strong teams in the group stages.  After a draw in the opening match; the team pushed forward and scored well in their other games to go through to the semi-finals.  In this match we opted for a positive strategy and reduced the number of players in defence to increase scoring opportunities…..and it worked! The final was against Applecroft and both teams were evenly matched and keen to win.  Extra time wasn’t able to break the deadlock and so the tournament outcome was down to penalties.  Megan (our fabulous keeper) managed to save numerous shots and also to score a penalty!  After every player from each team had taken their penalty it was still level pegging and, eventually, Applecroft got a break and won.  Our team were SO proud and supportive of each other that they almost left without their silver medals!! Well played ladies!
