youth sport trust

On Wednesday 14th January I had the very great privilege of attending the launch of the Youth Sport Trust Manifesto for PE and school sport at the House of Lords.

Baroness Sue Campbell CBE invited me to advocate the important role of sport as a tool for whole school improvement, building children’s character and raising attainment.

Speeches from Rt Hon Andy Burnham, Rt Hon Hugh Robertson, Young Ambassadors and Athlete Ambassadors were very well received and very motivational.

I also had the opportunity to meet gold medalists:

Duncan Goodhew, Darren Campbell, Victoria Pendleton, Jason Gardener and Tanni Gray-Thompson. I also spoke to a number of MP’s and officials from Sports National Governing Bodies.

The manifesto is asking the next government for a joined up, cross-departmental approach to deliver:

  • More time for higher quality PE.
  • Physical activity opportunities embedded into every school day and
  • Sustained competitive sport in school.

It was an extremely worthwhile launch and I hope to keep you informed of future sporting initiatives.
