Jan Martin

Head teacher Welcome

Welcome to St Michael’s Woolmer Green. I feel proud to be the Head Teacher of this very caring school.

Our staff work incredibly hard to create a happy, stimulating and safe environment, where your child will be able to grow in confidence and develop the skills needed to face the many challenges they will meet.

Children are individuals and we aim to cater for each of them as such, so that they can achieve their potential, both academically and socially. We want our children to develop a love of learning that will remain with them as they grow and develop into young citizens.

St Michael’s is part of a community that shares Christian values and has strong links with our nearby church. We support a variety of charities; this helps the children to think of other communities, outside of the school, both local and international and to consider others who are not as fortunate as they are.

We encourage good communication between home and school. Many parents and carers are involved in the Parent Council, which meets half termly to discuss a variety of topics and give feedback to the school about new initiatives. Some parents like to get involved by coming into school and hearing children read or help on school day trips. Others become class representatives and provide the link to ‘The Friends’ of St Michael’s, which helps to raise money towards providing community projects and special events, as well as purchasing important resources for the school.

If you are interested in finding out more about our school, we are holding ‘Open Mornings.’ Please contact the School Office and book a visit.

We look forward to seeing you!

You will remember last year our school display was a rainbow of hands. This year each child in the school has written their name on a heart. This theme fits in really well with our school prayer that ends with, ’So many hearts make a school’. Thank you to Mrs Leake for creating the new display, which looks beautiful.

Ashley playing piano

Ashley from Elm Class (Year 4) was asked to play piano at the Malaysian Embassy this week. She played for the Ambassador’s wife and assembled guests. She said she was a little nervous, but the recital was a huge success. She was thanked with a present of a doll. Congratulations to Ashley!

I spent some time with Year 5 talking through the role of a Junior Travel Ambassador. The children had lots of ideas to contribute and were passionate about improving safety around our school and local area. Those that wished to, filled out an application form and on Tuesday, Chi, from the Herts Road Safety Team came in to award the successful candidates with their JTA packs. Well done to Grace M, Benjamin, Millie, Grace R, Niamh and Megan. We look forward to hearing about all your fantastic ideas and plans. Since this photograph was taken the ...

TAG28.9 4

Year 5 and Year 6 mixed teams represented St. Michael’s at the Saracens tournament. Both teams demonstrated good rugby skills and there were some impressive ‘trys’ and ‘tags’. Scores were close in all games and the teams certainly embraced the challenge!  Well played everyone and thank you to Miss Prentice and Miss Rolland for accompanying the team.
