Jan Martin

Head teacher Welcome

Welcome to St Michael’s Woolmer Green. I feel proud to be the Head Teacher of this very caring school.

Our staff work incredibly hard to create a happy, stimulating and safe environment, where your child will be able to grow in confidence and develop the skills needed to face the many challenges they will meet.

Children are individuals and we aim to cater for each of them as such, so that they can achieve their potential, both academically and socially. We want our children to develop a love of learning that will remain with them as they grow and develop into young citizens.

St Michael’s is part of a community that shares Christian values and has strong links with our nearby church. We support a variety of charities; this helps the children to think of other communities, outside of the school, both local and international and to consider others who are not as fortunate as they are.

We encourage good communication between home and school. Many parents and carers are involved in the Parent Council, which meets half termly to discuss a variety of topics and give feedback to the school about new initiatives. Some parents like to get involved by coming into school and hearing children read or help on school day trips. Others become class representatives and provide the link to ‘The Friends’ of St Michael’s, which helps to raise money towards providing community projects and special events, as well as purchasing important resources for the school.

If you are interested in finding out more about our school, we are holding ‘Open Mornings.’ Please contact the School Office and book a visit.

We look forward to seeing you!

Thank you for helping to support the children’s first charity event. We have been raising money all week by selling wristbands and keyrings, and asking for donations on the gate this morning in exchange for the children wearing their own clothes. Thank you to Miss Tobin and the School Council for organising this. See the Gallery for a few more photos....

After a fabulous Harvest Festival service at St Michael's Church, led by Year 5, Oak Class went out delivering. They walked around Woolmer Green, taking with them all the goodies that they had brought into school over the last week. The children gave their Harvest gifts to various residents of the local community, and they were very gratefully received. Please go to the Gallery to see some photographs.

Our book fair starts after school on Friday 29th September, finishing on Tuesday 3rd October. Do pop in to have a look, and remember that St Michael's receives commission on any books sold which in turn will go towards buying new books for the school.

The school has purchased new playground equipment for the children to use at playtimes. It has been a huge success and has created 'zoned' areas where the children can skip, balance, play basketball, play football or create structures with the large shapes that you can see in the photograph above. There is also, of course, the quiet area based around our fabulous mosaic and the benches that surround it. The children like to read, chat or draw here. Please see the Gallery for some photos of the children enjoying their new equipment....
