Jan Martin

Head teacher Welcome

Welcome to St Michael’s Woolmer Green. I feel proud to be the Head Teacher of this very caring school.

Our staff work incredibly hard to create a happy, stimulating and safe environment, where your child will be able to grow in confidence and develop the skills needed to face the many challenges they will meet.

Children are individuals and we aim to cater for each of them as such, so that they can achieve their potential, both academically and socially. We want our children to develop a love of learning that will remain with them as they grow and develop into young citizens.

St Michael’s is part of a community that shares Christian values and has strong links with our nearby church. We support a variety of charities; this helps the children to think of other communities, outside of the school, both local and international and to consider others who are not as fortunate as they are.

We encourage good communication between home and school. Many parents and carers are involved in the Parent Council, which meets half termly to discuss a variety of topics and give feedback to the school about new initiatives. Some parents like to get involved by coming into school and hearing children read or help on school day trips. Others become class representatives and provide the link to ‘The Friends’ of St Michael’s, which helps to raise money towards providing community projects and special events, as well as purchasing important resources for the school.

If you are interested in finding out more about our school, we are holding ‘Open Mornings.’ Please contact the School Office and book a visit.

We look forward to seeing you!

Tea party

The children, from various years, enjoyed their celebration tea party this week, with Mrs Martin, underneath our brand new canopy for the first time. The brightly coloured sun shade was kindly given to us by The Friends. Much cake was enjoyed by all! Please go to the Gallery for more photographs.

This week Elm Class performed their amazing class assembly to the rest of the school and to their parents. They had learned so much about their topic and loved showing off their knowledge, as well as performing their own version of the story 'The Great Kapok Tree'. Please see the Gallery for more photographs.

play 3

Last week the outdoor area by Sycamore Class was finally fitted. The children watched the work being done each day as they looked forward to being able to play on it at last. We think it looks wonderful and bright with its yellow numbers and shapes.

The whole school celebrated Easter today with Thinking Day. The children experienced 5 different 'stations' about Holy Week and Easter in 5 different classrooms. Staff had used lots of resources (and much imagination) to recreate various scenes from the Easter story. The children worked in groups across the years. Many ideas and thoughts were shared throughout the school. Thanks to all the staff, especially Mrs Leake who coordinated the occasion, and also to Dominic and Lesley who also came in to join us and help. Please have a look at the...
